My Experience With Love

What is love?

Its seems for generations mankind has been involved in a heated debate in regards to the topic of love. Does love exist or better yet, can you tell me about love at first sight? Let me take it one step further and ask you about our period of existence. Do you believe that our generation values love any differently from those who came before us? These and many more are the questions that run through the mind of the freedom writer. However, unfortunately for him, the answers to such questions are unknown. So at the moment, I stand strong and despite the words of the liars that exist in my time of being, I declare after some deep thought, love does exist. Thats right, it does. For most of us, we will live life without it. For some, they will become exposed to it. While others will meet death while they harbour the feeling deep in their hearts. I’ve even known of individuals, mostly women, who have become ill due to the fact that the decree sent from above the heavens prevented their pour souls from being with their love. Nevertheless, let it be known many forms of love exist. We shouldn’t grow ignorant and restrict it to the opposite sex, although that is the most passionate form and also the most common. Believe it or not, I’ve experienced the so-called feeling of love and I’ve captured our battle in my Poetic Justice.

My Love:

My heart blinds me of the realities of tomorrow
I’m trapped between my thoughts of you and I feel no sorrow
Can a love like this grow even stronger

If you were attacked I would defend you with my honour
I will be your protector and He is my supporter

Fear is but a thought that has been transformed into a feeling
I grab it by the throat and jump head first into any commotion
I will remain committed to you and forever fulfill my devotion

Now time is of great essence so I worry about the events of tomorrow
Will we be kept apart forever, if not, than how much longer

If I had one wish in Junnah, I would ask for you
And if I could intercede, I would speak on your behalf
I invite you to good and you invite me to that which is better
So let’s hasten to do good together
Perhaps we will be granted mansions the size of the heavens and earth put together

Now history is but events that follow one another
My love could be compared to the love spoken of by the Great Scholar,
He spoke in great detail of this energetic feeling
His love was directed towards a lady, whereas my love is for my father
He felt pain and sorrow
But I feel like I’ve gained and I look forward to the events of tomorrow

There are four kinds of love, which we must differentiate between, and those who go astray do so because they do not make this distinction. The first of them is love of Allaah, but this alone is not sufficient to save a person from the punishment of Allaah and to earn him His reward. The Mushrikeen, worshippers of the cross, Jews and others all love Allaah. The second is love of that which Allaah loves. This is what brings a person into Islam and out of Kufr. The most beloved of people to Allaah is the one who is most correct and most devoted in this kind of love. The third kind is love for the sake of Allaah, which is one of the essentials of loving that which Allaah loves. A person’s love of that which Allaah loves cannot be complete until he also loves for the sake of Allaah. The fourth is love for something alongside Allaah, and this love has to do with shirk. Everyone who loves things alongside Allaah but not for the sake of Allaah has taken that thing as a rival to Allaah. This is the love of the Mushrikeen. There remains a fifth kind of love which has nothing to do with our topic; this is the natural love which is a person’s inclination towards that which suits his nature, such as the love of a thirsty person for water or of a hungry person for food, or the love of sleep, or of one’s wife and children. There is nothing wrong with this unless it distracts a person from remembering Allaah and keeps him from loving Him.

  2. an example of the last love would be like:

It was narrated that ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Hishaam said: We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) when he was holding the hand of ‘Umar ibn al-Khattaab. ‘Umar said to him: “O Messenger of Allaah, you are dearer to me than everything except my own self.” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “No, by the One in Whose hand is my soul, not until I am dearer to you than your own self.” ‘Umar said to him: “Now, by Allaah, you are dearer to me than my own self.” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Now (you are a true believer), O ‘Umar.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 6257.

The Muslim’s faith cannot be complete unless he loves the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), and until the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) is dearer to him than his father, his son, his own self and all the people. It was narrated that Anas said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “No one of you truly believes until I am dearer to him than his father, his son, his own self and all the people.”

  5. Shakespeare?

Wow. Believe it or not, Im not a fan of his. But even then, I cant deny that he was given a gift of words. After all, Im not a hater lol.

  6. Don’t desert the blog!!

Love, undeniabley exists. There has never been a question about that in my mind. In what form and with what effect it has on humans , however varies.

While there can be no comparison to the love of Allah and Loving for the sake of allah, There are other types of love that is human nature. The love of a mother for her child, the love of a spouse for the other. Think the prophet SallaAllahu alayhi wasallem had for Khadija, such that he would mention her years and years after her death.

It is when love surpasses the boundries set for it that it takes on a negative consequence. It is The passionate love, sometimes enfatuation that has the ability to make humans do crazy things that is now the focus of our literature and media. Muslims are not exempt from this effect. You can find such love documented by the likes of Ibn Hazm.

The love for your father that you document is admirable and one that those with damaged relationships with thier parents can only dream about. May Allah strengthen your love for each other and cause your love to be a reason for your entry into Jannah.

  7. InshAllah, I wont desert the blog but Im just lacking the motivation at the moment.

    By the way Ya’Muslimah…
You make many good points in your post.

  8. Asaalmaualaikum Akhee Ameen.

Hope n pray for u to be well n good in specific and of all muslimeen in general.

Logined n read ur post after quite a long time. You post has filled my heart with love..

Everyone has ones’ own meaning, definition, experience of it.Im yet to experiece it.

I would like to share some thoughts about it.

True Love cannot be seen by our eyes but by our heart,it cannot be touched by our hands but can be felt by our heart,it cannot be tasted with our tongue but by our heart.

Some people no matter how old they get, never lose their beauty(moral). They merely move it from thier faces in to their hearts.

Let the people look at you and say to themselves within themselves.”THE PEACE AND LOVE IM LOOKING FOR IS IN THE FACE OF THIS MAN. WONDER WHERE HE GOT IT FROM”

  9. hmmm more over…as servant (ist comment of this post)said there are four types of love….Allahukaber Allah has made four compartments in our heart

  10. hmmm more over…as servant (ist comment of this post)said there are four types of love….Allahukaber Allah has made four compartments in our heart. how amazing it is to know that.

  11. Salaam:

Nice poem. Cool post. Love is lovely I guess.

BTW, who is the “Great Scholar” you are mentioning or is that just symbolic.

Spiritual poems written about “Layla” are not exactly about a Woman, but people use them for women when applying them to their own lives, sometimes. Which is a bit lame, but its understandable. I mean we all feel incomplete until we find completion. Loving a woman is in essence like loving God. God is Beautiful. It is really difficult to Love God the way He deserves to Be. So, He gives us each other, as one of the means of making it easier for us. 🙂

    Anyways, Take care. Salaams.

  12. Atabek, Assalam and welcome to the blog.

Firstly, you make some good points and like you, I guess, love (that is outside the family fold) can be lovely but since I havent entered that stage in my life, I cant really know for sure 🙂

Secondly, the scholar I was thinking about when I was writing this poem is no other then Ibn Hazm. Honestly, he is the only scholar I know of and read from, who wrote in detail about the topic of love in a manner in which I could understand and relate to. However, Im sure…other scholars and students of knowledge have also written about this same topic but unfortunately, I havent been exposed to their work.

Hamid, Assalama alaikum bro…long time. Where have you been? May Allah have mercy on you bro..and please continue to make the long distance dou’aa for myself and the Muslims around the globe (dont forget the Muslims in Gaza and their situation). By the way, your thoughts are always welcome on my Poetic Justice so keep them coming inshAllah.

  13. Hmmm. Looks like you’re setting us up to disappear for another month, don’t it?

  14. The Messenger of Allah (salAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “I was made to love three things from your world – perfume, women, and prayer.” The companions were sitting with him and Abu Bakr (radyAllahu`anhu) said, “You have spoken the truth, O Messenger of Allah! I was made to love three things from this world – looking at the face of the Messenger of Allah (salAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), and giving my daughter in marriage to the Messenger of Allah (salAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).” ‘Umar (radyAllahu`anhu) said, “You have spoken truthfully, O Abu Bakr! I was made to love three things from this world – commanding good, forbidding evil, and worn garments.” `Uthman (radyAllahu`anhu) said, “You have spoken truthfully, O `Umar! And I was made to love three things from this world – feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, and reading the Qur’an.” `Ali (radyAllahu`anhu) said, “You have spoken truthfully, O `Uthman! I was made to love three things from this world – serving the guest, fasting in the summer, and fighting with the sword.” As they were discoursing, Jibra’il came and said, “Allah the Exalted sent me when He heard your discussion and has ordered you to ask me what I would have loved if I were to be from the people of this world. The Messenger of Allah (salAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) asked, “If you were to be from the people of this world what would you have loved?” Jibra`il replied, “Guiding those led astray, keeping the company of contented strangers, and helping families afflicted with hardship.” He continued, “The Lord of Honour loves three things from His servants – giving one’s utmost, crying when in regret, and being patient in times of poverty.”

  15. The Prophet (salAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, ‘Truthfulness of love is in three things – choosing the speech of the beloved over the speech of others, choosing the company of the beloved over the company of others, and choosing the pleasure of the beloved of the pleasure of others.”

  16. Jibra’il said, “O Muhammad! Live as long as you will, for you will surely die; love whomsoever you wish, for you will leave them; and do whatever you wish, for you will be recompensed accordingly.”
